ELECTROTHERAPIES
Sarah Barry Veterinary Physiotherapy offers therapeutic machines such as:
Laser- Laser treatment increases cell metabolism therefore reduces pain and discomfort alongside promoting healing. Laser accelerates wound healing and reduces pain in joints associated with arthritis and joint pathologies. Pulsed electromagnetic field therapy (PEMFT)- This electrotherapy has multiple settings with different functions that can target many conditions. PEMFT can aid in fracture repair promoting osteoblast formation and deposition encouraging union of the fracture site. PEMFT reduces pain by changing the nerve cell potential so that it is too low to fire pain signals. PEMFT can also increase blood flow improving cell nutrients or reduce blood flow which will reduce oedema and swelling formation. This electrotherapy can also work on neurological conditions promoting nerve firing patterns to re-establish. TENS - TENS machines work well on chronic conditions by reducing pain by acting on sensory nerves. Once pain is reduced the animal will naturally move better reducing compensatory issues thus promoting better athletic performance Thermal therapies - Heat therapy provides pain relief alongside increasing blood flow to an area reintroducing nutrients and oxygen promoting tissue repair. Cold therapy benefits animals in the acute phases of healing by reducing blood thus reducing oedema and swelling formation. |
REMEDIAL EXERCISES
Remedial exercise plans consist of an exercise routine to further improve your animals performance and enhance the success rate of physiotherapy treatments. After each physiotherapy session you will receive a exercise plan to enhance recovery. Each plan is case specific and works solely on an individual animals basis. This plan will be implemented by the owners between visits to enhance the success rate of physiotherapy therefore client compliance is essential to optimise performance and success.
